I wheeled my chair across the busy road in front of our place this morning to get to the convenience store. When I rolled through the door, the lady behind the counter gave me a great smile. She remembered me as the guy who came into her store earlier this summer with no shirt on.
I bought a cold coffee, an unsweetened power drink, and a couple of candy bars.
On the way back, a car coming toward me turned sideways in the road to block the traffic behind them. It was a nice thing to do for an old man with his ankle wrapped up, working a wheelchair across the street. I gave them a big thumbs-up as I rolled into my apartment complex.
Then I got into my room and cried.
Not a big cry—just a sad one.
It’s going to be a long weekend and a long month as I wait for this ankle to heal.
