This morning starts with protein, cereal, fruit, and a plan.
Two scoops of Body Fortress isolate protein in water.
One-third cap of Cutler Liquid Carnitine 3000.
A bowl of berry flake cereal with banana, blueberries, or both.
Whole milk when I have it.
That is the breakfast.
Simple. Practical. Built for recovery.
At almost eighty years old, with a broken ankle and a body that has taken a hard hit, I do not have the luxury of falling apart. Sitting still is dangerous. Eating poorly is dangerous. Losing strength is dangerous.
So this is not a diet breakfast.
This is not a bodybuilding breakfast.
This is not some magic supplement routine.
This is a recovery breakfast.
Protein to hold on to muscle.
Cereal and fruit for energy.
Milk for calories, calcium, and fullness.
Carnitine at the right dose, not overdone.
Water because healing needs it.
The goal is not to become young again. The goal is to keep enough strength, balance, and stubbornness to get through this injury without letting it take more from me than it already has.
A broken ankle shrinks your world fast. Suddenly the kitchen is far away. The bathroom is a mission. A glass of water becomes a project. Every move has to be thought through before it is made.
That changes a man’s relationship with breakfast.
Food becomes part of the fight.
This morning I also have two ankle surgeon appointments. One at 8:00 and one at 9:30.
I am grateful for both chances to be seen, but I am done drifting in pain and uncertainty.
The first surgeon who can give me a clear plan and get this ankle fixed now gets my insurance.
That is where I am today.
Breakfast first.
Surgeon next.
Healing after that.
BOOM.
