The Train

Grateful

Your life is a train.

Along the way, people climb aboard.

Some stay only a stop or two—a conversation, a laugh, a moment that somehow matters more than its length would suggest.

Others settle in for years. They become part of the rhythm of the ride. You get used to seeing them there, sharing the scenery, the rough stretches, the quiet nights. Sometimes you begin to believe they’ll still be beside you when the train reaches the end of the line.

But people have their own destinations.

Sometimes the train slows, the doors open, and someone you care about steps off. Maybe you knew their stop was coming. Maybe you didn’t. Maybe you desperately wish they would stay.

The empty seat can hurt.

But their leaving does not erase the miles you traveled together.

They were there. They mattered. They changed something in you, and you probably changed something in them. That part of the journey is yours forever.

A precious few may stay aboard for most of the ride. Treasure them.

And when someone else reaches their station, wave goodbye if you can. Wish them well. Remember the good miles.

Then look forward again.

There is still track ahead, still scenery you haven’t seen, still stations you haven’t reached, and people you haven’t met.

The train keeps moving.

And so do you.
