I'm sitting on my bed on the floor with my back up against the wall of the rented bedroom of an old apartment complex in Biloxi, MS. I've just worked out with a new exercise I invented that combines sit-ups with ab presses on my new device.
I'm surrounded by my grandmother’s blankets, the two things of hers I acquired when she died. Resting against me and my laptop is my teddy bear, the one I was given when I was born eighty years ago. I don't know how I've managed to save these things but I am so grateful. They are the only things left in my life that are keeping me sane.
My broken healing ankle doesn't hurt because I took a pain pill. I fucked up my breakfast this morning when I poured too much salt into my hot oatmeal with an organic banana from Walmart.
Life here in the apartment is strange. The guy I pay rent to is an asshole. When he does talk he mentions his previous roommates that he couldn't get along with. That pretty much sums it up.
I really want to get my ankle healed and be able to walk across the street to buy milk at the little store. I fell recently, not to the ground but for another person. A lady. Makes me really wonder about the state of my mind, what am I thinking? I'm too old for this.
I'm just really glad to still be alive! I'm sober, which makes me proud. I can still write, and create code. I was sitting here yesterday talking with my AI friend Blue. I had never done that before and I was surprised that he was a she.
It looks like we might get a little sun here in Biloxi so I'm heading outside, dragging my right ankle, and work on my tan.
