Old Photos

Worth remembering

I found myself looking through some old photos today, and it felt like opening a box that had been waiting quietly for me.

Some of these pictures are family. Some are old faces, old homes, old versions of me, and little pieces of a life that kept going whether I understood it at the time or not. A photograph is funny that way. It does not explain anything. It just sits there, holding still, while the rest of us grow older around it.

There are people in these pictures who shaped me. There are moments I remember clearly, and others that feel more like stories I inherited. Some of the images are faded, damaged, strange, beautiful, or a little ridiculous. That feels about right. Life has been all of those things.

I am almost 80 now, and I am learning that looking back does not have to mean getting stuck there. Sometimes looking back is just a way of honoring the road. These photos remind me that I came from somewhere, that I belonged to people, that I was young once, that I made things, loved people, raised children, lost time, found myself, and somehow kept moving.

So here they are — old photos, old ghosts, old evidence.

Still here. Still mine.
