Still Here

Small win

Across the street, back in the code, and grateful to be alive

There are days when progress looks small from the outside, but feels enormous when you’re the one living it.

Today I walked across the street.

That may not sound like much to a healthy person, but when you’ve spent time wondering whether you were even going to make it through all this, a walk to the store becomes something else entirely. I made it over to Popp’s Food Mart, bought some chocolate candy — which is already gone — and showed my lady friend the picture we made of her store. She loved it, which made the trip even better.

While I was there, I caught a better angle on the Biloxi water tower, and I have to say, it felt good standing there, looking up at it, alive enough to care.

The store lady said something simple and true: walking is something we take for granted.

She’s right.

A lot of things get taken for granted until life knocks you flat and makes you earn them back one inch at a time.

But today wasn’t only about walking.

It was also a pretty good day in the code.

We kept pushing Roman Explorer forward, got it onto the BluSup home page, gave it a real image instead of a placeholder, and improved the deployment system so Master, Trim, Codex, and Server all stay in sync. That may sound technical, but to me it means something personal: the work is still alive too.

And so am I.

There were moments in this whole ordeal when I truly wasn’t sure I would still be here to do any of this — not the coding, not the posting, not the walking, not the candy, not the laughter, not the sight of that water tower against a Mississippi sky.

But here I am.

Still building.
Still deploying.
Still healing.
Still surprising myself.

Maybe that’s what this season is really about.

Not some grand dramatic comeback.
Just one real step after another.

Across the street.
Back into the world.
Back into the work.
Back into life.

And from where I’m sitting this afternoon, that feels like a pretty damn good achievement.
